Nest Boxes for Birds
at Schreiner Group

The dedicated bird conservation activities on Schreiner Group’s premises made it onto television. The RTL Living channel produced a program on Schreiner Group’s premises as part of its six-part series, “Mein Urbaner Garten – Zwischen Blüten & Beton” (My urban garden–between blossoms and concrete). Presenter and actress Sarah Mangione stopped in Oberschleissheim on her trip through Germany’s urban oases, and had two bird experts, Joachim Strober and Sven Ott, from “Projekt Artenvielfalt” (Biodiversity Project), explain in detail why birds like Schreiner Group so much.

Blue tits, robins, redstarts, swifts, or wrens: Because natural nesting locations are becoming increasingly hard to find, Schreiner Group—an environmentally sustainable family business—installed over 30 nest boxes two years ago on the premises of its headquarters in Oberschleissheim. This bird-friendly project came about in cooperation with the Biodiversity Project: Joachim Strobel and Sven Ott developed an individual plan for Schreiner Group, installed the boxes professionally, and are additionally taking care of maintenance.

Birds come in various sizes and have specific preferences: Small indigenous songbirds like tits feel comfortable in nest boxes with an entrance hole diameter of about three centimeters. Starlings prefer larger boxes with an entrance diameter of four centimeters. The swift, however, likes to nest on house walls at a height of six to seven meters. For many bird species to have a chance of finding a home, Schreiner Group hangs up various nesting cavities, boxes, houses, and balls on its trees, hedges, and parking garages.
