Medication Management Digitalized

Real-time visibility of drugs down to the individual unit of use is essential for inventory management and patient safety in hospitals. UHF RFID technology reduces the labor requirement as well as the error rate, and detects expired or recalled stock in kits and trays. Schreiner MediPharm’s RFID labels in combination with Bluesight’s KitCheck™ systems are a powerful solution that optimizes digital tracking in hospital pharmacies.

Bluesight’s market-leading KitCheck™ solution is used for restocking in over 900 North American hospitals, helping them to efficiently and digitally manage their inventories of drugs used in emergency and anaesthetics. To date, more than 325 million doses of injectable medications have been registered in the Bluesight Registry to make them available in KitCheck™ scanning stations and KitCheck™ Anywhere trays. To ensure reliable identification of the medicine containers in these systems, high-performance RFID labels are required, and that’s exactly where Schreiner MediPharm comes into play: The pharmaceutical specialist develops particularly robust and application-optimized RFID labels that can be applied on high-speed dispensing systems in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

The RFID labels from Schreiner MediPharm offer a variety of features such as integrated hangers for infusion bottles, removable documentation labels, or tamper-evident seals. Even containers with narrow radii such as syringes or vials can be reliably labeled. The specially developed Robust RFID structure permanently protects the chip against mechanical stress and functional failure, ensuring fast and reliable reading of the smart labels in the KitCheck™ Scanning Stations using Bluesight’s tracking software. Batch numbers and expiration dates are automatically captured, and stockouts or expired drugs identified. Due to the additional integration of a digital first-opening indication in the label, the integrity of the containers can be monitored on unit level.

Pharmaceutical manufacturers are provided with a reliable RFID solution for labeling their drugs, hospital pharmacies benefit from a future-proof solution for digital medication management and efficient, end-to-end inventory control. Medical staff saves valuable time, medication errors are reduced, and patient safety is enhanced.
