Green Energy:
Heat from Deep Sources
Winter 2023-24 marks the beginning of a new era for Schreiner Group. It’s the first winter for the company in which it’s not using any gas whatsoever at its headquarters, enabled by an exceptional geothermal energy project. Where gas used to fuel the heating system seven new heat pumps are now supplying the offices and production facilities with green energy from deep sources—powered by 100 percent green electricity.
Schreiner Group has been a trailblazer in terms of sustainability for more than 30 years, which is reflected in the current heat pump project as well: For the high-tech company, Schreiner Immobilien 1 GmbH & Co. KG as the principal invested nearly six million euros in the geothermal energy conversion project. Three heat pumps were installed in a decentralized arrangement in different buildings where they replace previous gas heaters while four mammoth heat pumps operate in a building that was specifically erected for them.
Between 2011 and the beginning of 2023, Schreiner Group already managed to reduce CO2 emissions regarding Scope 1 and 2 by 70 percent. Now these CO2 emissions can be reduced to zero especially due to the new geothermal energy project. Schreiner Group itself will no longer be emitting any CO2 starting at the end of 2023. That’s a resounding success for the environment and for the family-owned company. With that, Schreiner Group is exactly on schedule because its strategic sustainability goal adopted in 2021 provides for climate-neutral production from 2023 onward.
