Forward-Thinking Construction Project:
Heat Pump House

A forward-thinking construction project at Schreiner Group designed to maximize the company’s independence of gas in the current energy crisis is nearing completion: a building with a footprint of about 300 square meters accommodating four large heat pumps for generating energy from groundwater. Senior shareholder Helmut Schreiner and CEO Roland Schreiner expressed their pleasure about the project during the groundbreaking ceremony in fall of 2022: “We’re delighted that we’re soon going to be independent of gas due to our new heat pump project. That this action also clearly improves our carbon footprint perfectly fits our ambition of being a sustainable company that assumes responsibility for people and the environment.”

The groundwater wells that are necessary for this extensive construction project already exist. The two newest buildings at the headquarters have been energetically supplied by heat pumps ever since they were erected. “The construction of the fifth building required the development of a new heating concept. The decision was made to use groundwater for generating heat and for cooling, and we’re delighted about now expanding this concept significantly,” says CEO Roland Schreiner. He expects the investment of more than five million euros to reduce the company’s dependency on gas by about 90 percent starting as early as in the second quarter of 2023. “For sustainability reasons, we looked into this area early on and were able to secure a production window with a renowned heat pump manufacturer in advance.”

Interior and exterior view: In December 2022, the high-tech pumps were delivered and integrated into the building’s shell. The pump house will be taken into operation in spring of 2023.

Our special thanks go to the local government of Oberschleissheim and the county commissioner’s office that were instrumental in supporting the approval process. As a result, we’re going to achieve full independence of natural gas by 2024,” he says. At the same time, Schreiner Group is approaching its strategic sustainability goal of commencing climate-neutral production in 2023 and achieving full climate neutrality starting in 2030. With that, the internationally aligned family-owned company for innovative high-tech labels and functional parts is assuming a pioneering role.
