A brass band, tapping of a barrel, and Bavarian delicacies: That’s how the site in Blauvelt got going 15 years ago. Following many months of preparation and planning, Schreiner Group’s US location was officially opened with a special Bavarian Day in September 2008. Roland Schreiner, then President of the Schreiner MediPharm business unit and CEO of Schreiner Group since 2012, had set the course for this forward-thinking move. For the 15th anniversary in spring 2023, he joined the company’s employees at the production site in Blauvelt to celebrate the success that has been achieved over the last few years.

A company-owned manufacturing location in the United States—that was a bold move for a family-owned business with annual sales of just under 100 million euros. It entailed a lot of imponderables and the capital expenditures appeared to be too high for a medium sized company. Even so, Schreiner Group ventured that move in 2008. 15 years ago, the hightech company’s first international production site was opened in Blauvelt in the US state of New York. The courage the company mustered back then has long since paid off. Today, almost 80 people are working there, the array of machines, the production areas, and the products as well as the customers have all been seeing steady growth in recent years.

CEO Roland Schreiner was convinced from the get-go that a company-owned US branch would raise the medium-sized enterprise to a new level. In 2008, his father, Helmut Schreiner, was still the company’s CEO and Roland Schreiner President of the Schreiner MediPharm business unit. His international vision proved him right. “Schreiner Group had been supplying to the US market for several decades,” Roland Schreiner recalls today, “but a manufacturing location of our own—close to customers, in direct touch with their wishes and expectations, with fast product deliveries—in my view, that was crucial for working with customers in the long run.”

Originally, the site in Blauvelt manufactured products only for the Schreiner MediPharm business unit. The geographic proximity to customers was a major advantage of the location because many pharmaceutical companies are based in nearby New Jersey. Since 2011, the second business unit, Schreiner ProTech, has been represented there and, since 2016, manufacturing products directly in the Unites States as well—primarily for the large automotive sector. “Even though I visit our US site regularly, being here for the anniversary is a special feeling,” said a delighted CEO Roland Schreiner. “And after the fantastic developments of the past 15 years, I’m already looking forward to the next 15.”
